The Raku ceramic beads have a diameter of approx. 15mm. The cord hole has a diameter of approx. 3.7mm. The ceramic beads are light blue and copper in color and also have undyed areas that are black from the original ceramic. The silver colored hammered cap has a diameter of approx. 9mm.
In order to produce raku, the traditional way of firing ceramics is slightly modified. After the actual firing process, the ceramics are not allowed to cool down slowly in the still hot kiln, but are cooled outside (usually outdoors). For this, the ceramic comes in a container and is packed tightly and airtight with grass, hay, leaves, etc. Raku ceramic is thicker than conventionally fired ceramic so that the ceramic can withstand the change from hot to cold better and store heat better. Various things are happening now as it cools down. On the one hand, the packing material with grass and leaves can leave imprints on the cooling ceramic, and on the other chemical processes ensure that the ceramic changes its glaze color. The carbon created by the smoke is distributed in the typical fine hairline cracks (craquelure) caused by cooling. The raku firing method can only be controlled to a small extent and so all raku ceramics are unique.
With our raku pendants and beads, the delivered products may differ slightly from the illustration in the item description. The shape and color distribution may vary. Raku products are irregular, with cracks and nicks. This is intentional and not a quality defect.
