A round Raku pendant with a square silver plated cap, 37mm in size, in the colors copper and shiny silvery beige with black ceramic parts.

The Raku pendant has a diameter of approx. 37mm and is approx. 22mm thick. The hole in the middle of the pendant is covered by a square silver colored cap and has a diameter of approx. 5.50mm. The cap has a size of approx. 18mm x 16mm. The pendant has superficially incised lines and has three colors: one is copper-colored, the other is shiny silvery-beige, and in the middle is an untreated part of black Kceramic.

The Raku pendant can be combined with other Raku beads or matt ceramic beads. We recommend leather straps with a diameter of 2 mm as a decorative strap. You can find leather straps in many colors in our shop.

In order to produce raku, the traditional way of firing ceramics is slightly modified. After the actual firing process, the ceramics are not allowed to cool down slowly in the still hot kiln, but are cooled outside (usually outdoors). For this, the ceramic comes in a container and is packed tightly and airtight with grass, hay, leaves, etc. Raku ceramic is thicker than conventionally fired ceramic so that the ceramic can withstand the change from hot to cold better and store heat better. Various things are happening now as it cools down. On the one hand, the packing material with grass and leaves can leave imprints on the cooling ceramic, and on the other chemical processes ensure that the ceramic changes its glaze color. The carbon created by the smoke is distributed in the typical fine hairline cracks (craquelure) caused by cooling. The raku firing method can only be controlled to a small extent and so all raku ceramics are unique.

With our raku pendants and beads, the delivered products may differ slightly from the illustration in the item description. The shape and color distribution may vary. Raku products are irregular, with cracks and nicks. This is intentional and not a quality defect.
